Quantity Surveyor (M&E), Midlands
Your own packages, on M&E work that isn't straightforward
Most commercial roles hand you a slice of someone else's project. This one gives you your own subcontract packages and the accountability that comes with them.
Why this one is different
- A mechanical and electrical engineering services business, with a team working on high profile, technically complex projects
- Full accountability for your own work packages or projects, not a supporting seat
- Profit share on top of your salary
- A car allowance or company car, depending on grade
- Learning and development activity to support your progression
- Flexible working, with travel to site covered
What you'd own
You'd help shape the commercial strategy on your projects, before and after contract, and run your own subcontract packages from tender enquiry through to package reconciliation and subcontract orders. You'd keep cash flow healthy through good commercial management, and work with the Commercial Lead to agree main contract and subcontract final accounts. It's your work and your name on it, on projects where the engineering is the interesting part.
What you need
- Experience as an M&E quantity surveyor or project surveyor, because you'll be running your own packages
- Confidence with subcontract procurement and final accounts
This suits you if you like challenging the norm and bringing new ideas to how a project is run commercially. We'll talk through the rest of the detail when we speak.
The package
There's no salary figure here, because that's a conversation. What we can say is that the pay is backed by a profit share, a car allowance or company car depending on grade, and travel to site covered. Around that sit private medical, a 6% employer pension, 26 days holiday plus bank holidays, a health and wellness programme and fully paid family leave. Flexible working is part of it too.
How it's being run
You deal with us directly, not a portal. Ask us anything about the role and we'll answer from what the client has told us. If we don't know, we'll ask them and come back to you.
About us
We're clearnorth. We work with quantity surveyors and commercial people in construction, infrastructure and regulated utilities, perm and contract, and that's all we do. People call us the QS People. It started as a nickname and stuck because it's accurate. It's a small world, and we'll cross paths with most people reading this several times over a career, so a move that goes wrong costs us far more than it ever earns. That's why we've taken the time to understand this role properly before putting it in front of you.
The way in
We know what sending a CV out means when you're settled. Your name in the wrong inbox, your employer hearing about it second hand, your details sat in a database you don't control. So your CV goes nowhere until we've spoken and you've said yes, and your name reaches the client only once we've agreed how. That's not us being saintly. In a world this size, one careless send and we've lost you for good, and you're worth more to us over the next twenty years than any single fee.
If the timing's not right but the role has landed, get in touch anyway. We'd rather be the people you've already met for whenever something shifts, six weeks or six years from now.
