About the role
A Tier 1 multi utilities contractor working across gas, water and power is hiring a Senior Quantity Surveyor for their commercial team. They've scaled fast over the last few years, mostly through repeat work from clients who keep coming back and selective acquisitions, and they're now bringing more of the commercial function in house rather than passing it out.
You'd be running the commercial side of live projects, working directly with the Commercial Director, with real ownership over how things get done.
Why we think this one's worth a conversation
Two things make it stand out from most places we see.
The Commercial Director actually listens. That sounds like a small thing but anyone who's worked for the opposite knows it isn't. People in his team get heard rather than talked at, and ideas that come up from the commercial side genuinely get taken seriously.
The progression side is properly thought through. There's an actual framework for how people move up and what's expected at each level, not the usual "we'll see how you get on" handwave. RICS funded. NEC funded. They're a 5% Club member and they back it up with a real development budget that doesn't require you to justify your existence to access.
About how this one's being run
You won't see this role advertised anywhere else. That's by choice on the client's side. They've made a point of not spraying it across the market because they want the right person in the right way, not whoever happens to be looking that week. Which tells you something about how they think about hiring generally.
About us
We're clearnorth. Quantity Surveying is the only thing we do, perm and contract, nothing else. People sometimes call us the QS People which started as a nickname and stuck because it's accurate. The reason it matters here isn't branding, it's that we spend our time understanding this part of the market properly rather than running senior commercial people through the same generic process as everyone else in construction.
Why applying here isn't a risk
The thing worth saying first is this. We know exactly what it means for someone in your position to send their CV anywhere. Your name landing in the wrong inbox, your current employer hearing about it second hand, your details sitting in a database you've got no control over. We do this work every day with senior commercial people and we treat the confidentiality side as the most important part of it, because we know what the risk actually is.
Your CV doesn't go anywhere until we've spoken and you've told us you're happy for it to. Your name doesn't get mentioned to the client until we've agreed how. That's not a service line, it's how we work because anything else would lose us the people we want to be talking to.
If now's not quite the right time but the message has landed, applying still works. We'd rather be the person you've already met for whenever something does shift, six weeks, six months or six years from now.
If pressing apply isn't the move for you, you can also reach us directly on 01946 372 172 or email [email protected]. Same conversation, same handling, just a different way in.
Apply through the button and you'll hear from us shortly. A real conversation, not an automated email or a holding message.
