A role that shapes the numbers — and the projects behind them.

Infrastructure, power, and water are some of the most secure and steadily growing sectors in the UK right now. They’re essential, future-proof, and they offer long-term career stability for those who know how to manage the numbers that make these projects work.

This role is part of that story. The business is taking on a wider portfolio of projects across Scotland, and they need a Quantity Surveyor who can bring a commercial lift, making sure each scheme moves into a stronger financial position.

💷   Day rate: £400–£420 (outside IR35)

The company:

Behind the role is one of Scotland’s leading civil engineering firms, established for decades and trusted to deliver on major projects that shape communities. Known for technical strength and consistent delivery, they’re also known inside the industry as a place where QS's get exposure to genuinely varied and interesting work — not just one type of scheme on repeat.

What’s expected of you:

  • Day-to-day commercial management across live infrastructure projects.
  • Supporting a Commercial Manager in driving financial health of contracts.
  • Applying NEC contract knowledge to safeguard outcomes.
  • Preparing and reviewing valuations, forecasts, and final accounts.
  • Engaging with project teams on cost, risk, and change control.

The work you’ll step into:

  • Handling projects at planning, live build, and close-out stages.
  • Working across sites, office, and home — independence expected, support available.
  • Taking a clear role in strengthening commercial positions within 6 months.
  • Contributing to secure, high-value projects in power and water.

Why people stay:

  • Exposure to projects you won’t see elsewhere.
  • A culture of trust, with hybrid working built in.
  • Long-term security — plus outside IR35.
  • Colleagues who value high standards over hierarchy.

You’ll fit best if you…

  • Enjoy variety — not just one project type.
  • Can work independently and spot commercial opportunities.
  • Want your work to influence the outcome of major civils schemes.
