Most QS roles in water put you a long way from the person who can actually develop you. This one is different. You would sit directly under a Senior Quantity Surveyor based locally, someone we know well and rate highly, with the regional commercial lead a step above that. Day to day support on your doorstep, not at the end of a phone line three counties away.

The highlights

  • Work for a Tier 1 multi utilities contractor with a strong and growing water portfolio
  • Report into a local Senior QS in Leicester, with real mentoring rather than remote management
  • Projects ranging from reactive works through to major pipeline schemes, all under NEC
  • An established seat in a settled team, not a speculative new overhead
  • Clear route to Senior QS as the business continues to grow through contract wins and acquisition

About the business

Our client is a Tier 1 contractor operating across water, power and gas. The water side of the business is led by a commercial manager whose team is well structured and well regarded, with senior surveyors covering each region and a healthy mix of QSs, graduates and commercial support beneath them. They are winning work, not chasing it, and the commercial function has a genuine voice in how projects are run.

About the role

You would take ownership of a portfolio of water projects across the Midlands, working from Leicester with the usual site presence you would expect. The work spans small reactive and repair schemes through to significant pipeline and infrastructure projects, so no two months look the same.

The core of the role is sound commercial management under NEC. Cost value reconciliation, contract variations, early warnings and compensation events, subcontract management and keeping the project teams honest on cost. You would run your own schemes with autonomy but with a Senior QS alongside you who knows the contracts, knows the clients and is invested in bringing you on.

This is a replacement for someone who has moved up within the business, which tells you something about how they develop their people.

Who this suits

You might be a QS with a couple of years in utilities, civils or infrastructure who wants more responsibility without being thrown in unsupported. Or you might be further on and looking for a business where the next step actually exists rather than being promised. NEC experience matters here. Water experience helps but is not essential if your contract fundamentals are strong.

If you are settled where you are but curious about what else is out there, that is fine. Most of the people we speak to are not actively looking. A conversation costs nothing and stays between us.

A quiet word

This role is not on the open market in the usual way. We work with this client directly and exclusively at this level, which means you deal with people who actually know the team, the manager and the work, and your details go nowhere without your say so.

If you would like to know more, even informally, get in touch with Danielle Pears on 01946 372 172 or [email protected]. No pressure either way. We would rather be the people you have already spoken to whenever the time is right.
